The Australian Horror Writers Association (AHWA) is the peak professional body for Australian authors of dark fiction (horror, dark fantasy, and paranormal fiction). The AHWA was founded in 2003, and since its incorporation in 2005, the Association has implemented an annual flash & short story competition, a mentorship program, online writers forums, successful critique groups, news and article archives, the Australian Shadows award, and Midnight Echo.

About Midnight Echo

Midnight Echo is the official magazine of the Australian Horror Writers Association.

Midnight Echo is distributed in hard copy and electronic format to more than 1,000 subscribers across the world, including AHWA members, Horror Writers Association members in the United States, and members of the British Fantasy Society in the UK.

The magazine, published bi-annually since October 2008, brings together the best authors in the horror genre, while also showcasing art by some of the most acclaimed dark artists from around the world.

Each issue is guest edited by Australia's most respected horror editors and authors. Guest editors have included Angela Challis (editor, Black: Australian Dark Culture Magazine and the Australian Dark Fantasy & Horror series), Leigh Blackmore (editor, Terror Australis), Kirstyn McDermott (author, Madigan Mine), and Shane Jiraiya Cummings (editor, Black Box).
